All About Mud Flaps

All About Mud Flaps

Whether you have a car, SUV or truck, getting mud flaps for your vehicle is a must. What’s the truth about mud flaps, you might ask? This automotive accessory helps prevent dirt and grime, keeping your vehicle clean and mud-free even while driving in high speeds on murky areas.

Mud flaps are also called as mud guards or splash guards. It is called in many terms, but its purpose is to help protect the vehicle from debris and different road conditions you may encounter. This is essential especially when your tires are constantly coming in contact with mud, dirt, rocks, salt, water and other elements found on the road.

Won’t flop in protecting your vehicle

Mud flaps are great investment for any automobile. It is an inexpensive accessory that will save your money and time in the future. It provides a hassle-free maintenance while keeping your ride in good condition. It can withstand different weather conditions, may it be snowy, rainy or dry. The particles that come in contact with the exterior and even the underside part can cause grime, stains and chip onto the paint of the vehicle. It can also ruin the paint and cause rust onto other metal parts on your vehicle. Mud flaps are made to protect the frame of your car from corrosion.

Some people think that mud flaps are not necessary to use. There’s a lot of benefits you can get from this simple accessory especially for those who live in areas with rainy or snowy climates. It is also recommended for people who often drive in sandy areas or gravel roads. Mud flaps are designed to act as barrier between the tires and the wheel wells.

Great for off-roading

Mud flaps are also recommended for off-roaders since they usually drive on harsh road conditions and always come in contact with road rocks, mud, and other road particles. It comes in different styles which can be matched to the vehicle.

There are different brands that offers this automotive part. It is available in different shapes, sizes, and colors, and even materials used. Some custom-made mud guards are constructed using plastic or rubber.

What mud guards should you use?

Both styles are made with protective backstop that prevents particles thrown by tires when driving. The plastic splash guards are commonly seen on cars while the rubber flaps are usually found on truck and heavy-duty vehicles. Plastic-made guards are durable enough for lightweight cars. It can withstand harsh weather conditions and prevent road particles that may cause dents on some part of the vehicle. On the other hand, the rubber material is as durable as plastic but more flexible, so it’s good for bigger sized vehicles to provide greater coverage. The rigid mud guards can get stuck onto the tires, especially for bigger sized vehicle at high speeds. The rubber ones can sail out of the way because of it flexible construction.

Mud flaps are easy to clean. Dust can be wipe off easily while tougher grime can be washed off with soap and rinsed with water. Automatic drive-in car wash can also clean this automotive accessory during the cleaning process.

The Difference Between a Sports Car and a Roadster

The Difference Between a Sports Car and a Roadster

Have you ever looked at a car and thought maybe that could be a sports car because it only has two seats? It’s elegant like a sports car and as agile as a sports car, but there is a difference between the two. Here is the difference between the roadster and the sports car.

The first car that was made is considered a roadster as it only has two seats installed and no roof. They also call convertible cars roadsters because of the convertible roof. Examples would include the Porsche Boxster and the Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster.

A roadster is often considered a sports car as it was made to emphasise the comfort and the handling of the vehicle. However, this was considered a sports car when the fastest car only had two to four cylinders and not a lot of horsepower. A roadster, now, can be just as fast as the BMW M3 but it’s not as warm in the winter months though.

Sports cars are defined by the type of engine they have. The engine usually has to consist of eight cylinders or more to be considered a sports car or super car. Obviously the suspension and turbochargers are part of it but it’s mainly how many cylinders it contains. The car should be able to go from a stationary position to one hundred kilometres per hour in just a couple of seconds; nothing a roadster can’t handle.

Sports cars nowadays are front-engine and front wheel drive vehicles. There are few manufacturers who have rear-engines and rear wheel drive ability such as Porsche and the Audi R8. The layout has been changed because the performance of giving the car torque from the front is better and faster without requiring as much force to push the car.

Unlike the roadster, engineers and manufacturers have tried to make the sports car more practical in case a child or luggage was to be involved with the traveling. They call the four seating layout “2+2”, which means that there the two occasional seats with the general driver and shotgun seats.

Both cars require specific types of wheels and tyres to ensure their optimum driving force. So the wheel suppliers take this into account when designing the vehicles. The wheels must be able to handle high speeds and tight corners.

These types of cars are so similar yet so different especially to the hard-core vehicle enthusiasts. Yet to a normal person, both could serve the same purposes just as well. One could be your holiday car for those hot days and the other could be your super elegant and fast family car.

A1 Wheel and Tyre is a private family owned and operated company specialising in the warehouse and distribution of wheels and tyres to the automotive fitment trade. The company has a well established operation in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Tips to Get Your G Road Test Driving License

Tips to Get Your G Road Test Driving License

It takes at least 24 months to complete G1 and G2 licenses, and 20 months for an individual that passed an approved driver education course. You have the maximum limit of two years to finish, or your current license will expire, and you’ll have to start all over again.

To get started, a copy of the official ministry of transportation driver’s handbook would be needed; this is the guide for details on learning to drive rules of the road, safe driving practices and how to get your license. Before getting the G1 license, knowing the rules of the road and its signals is important. The handbook will prepare you for the G1 knowledge test.

The site will guide you through all you need to take with you to the test, which includes two pieces of acceptable ID and the fee. And if you had glasses, make sure to go along with them because there would be a vision test and a picture for the license.

Some tips to get your G road test booking Ontario driving license

On the day of the trial:

• Ask the driving instructor to take a practice before the test.

• It is ideal to be friendly with the examiner; making a greeting breaks the ice before the test.

And during the trial;

• Check your mirror often during the test; make sure there’s no car tailgating you.

Blind spots: Check your blind spots when you intend to make a turn, and then show the direction.

Maintain your Speed Limit: Drive between 40 to 50 km/hr. In downtown and follow the speed limit when you are about to enter a school zone.

Stop sign: Make a complete stop at the line or the corner of a crosswalk or the edge of the road.

For the G license, you must demonstrate to be able to drive properly on any highway. If you have a car behind, don’t let your speed exceed that time. Otherwise, the examiner could interpret that you were entering very slowly.

Along the highway, reduce the speed rate to the flow of vehicles, even if they are at a higher speed limit. Otherwise, if you are going slower than the other, it can be considered a risk to other vehicles. When asked to change lanes (which can happen several times) to signal in advance, check the blind spot, and avoid sudden movements with the tiller.

Finally, when you leave the highway slow down gradually on the ramp and put the turn signal as respective see painted on the road marking arrows which directions will each lane. So, in the driving test preparation is the key to success.

All About Car Umbrella

All About Car Umbrella

The car is an invaluable tool for many of us. In order to minimize the effects of the elements on the cars, a product called the Car Umbrella was developed. By adding a barrier between your car and the elements, it lessens the toll your steel horse takes over the years.

In essence, the car umbrella is a cover that extends over your vehicle so that you can leave your car or stay inside when the weather is less than optimal. By extending a protective canvas, which consists of a material similar to the one used for boats’ sails, over the whole roof of the car, the umbrella safeguards it from weather conditions, such as the sun, acidic rains, leaves, dust particles or, least savory of all, bird droppings. Be advised, it is intended for use only when not driving.

The invention itself is user-friendly. Uniquely designed, it is intended for ease of use and to be polyvalent. It is made out of high-quality materials, such as copper anti-rust windproof snaps and military grade fiberglass rods. In addition, the snaps will disengage to protect the integrity of the installation in case of strong winds. The Umbrella itself is mounted on suction cups, to be installed in the middle of the car roof. With 70 kg of horizontal suction and wind ropes to protect against gusts, it makes the whole installation quite stable. All the pieces in contact with the car are made of soft materials to ensure that they do not scratch the car’s paint. Add into the mix high-quality polycarbonate fittings and a battery that operates for a full month after one charge, and this isn’t merely a simple contraption.

Installing it, on the other hand, takes a mere 30 seconds. Its canvas, 2.1 meters wide by 4 meters, can then be deployed in less than 10 seconds, using the remote which is effective up to 98 ft. (almost 30 meters) away. When its arms are extending, one is reminded of a bat spreading its wings. For storage, it can easily fit in any trunk and be carried and deployed as needed as it is only 85 cm long. You also have the option of 3 different color schemes for the canvas cover, allowing you to customize the Umbrella to fit whatever mood you’re in.

The way we see it, it provides two advantages to your car. On the one hand, it protects the outside and lessens the upkeep. Secondly, it generates an airflow and separation between the car and its surroundings. This translates into significantly lower car surface temperatures in sunny conditions, in some cases as much as 35oC, and consequently cooler temperatures inside. That way you can save on fuel if you decide to wait in the car, since the air-conditioning will not be as important, and your car will suffer much less wear and tear while it’s left parked in nature or underground parking lots.

The concept offers the protection of the same material that survives sea storms, and that says something. It will be interesting to see if the idea is pushed further, and its future iterations.

Things You Must Consider When Visiting Car Dealerships

Things You Must Consider When Visiting Car Dealerships

No matter how busy a family is, car problems can cramp everyone’s style. The fear of not having transportation can rush people into quick car choices, but that’s not the way to go. It’s important for families to consider the following factors when trying to choose a vehicle that will fulfill the needs of each family member as well as be comfortable for the driver and all passengers. Before contacting car dealerships, families should take these factors into consideration.

Looks Are a Small Part of the Package

When perusing car dealerships, it’s more than a little tempting for most buyers to go for the snazzy convertible or even a nice-looking sedan from a luxury brand. However, when they have to take an entire family’s needs into consideration, how a car looks usually goes much further down the list than it would for a single person.

Reliability Has a Big Pull

Since most families rely on their automobile for commuting to and from work and school on a regular basis, a vehicle that’s going to last and adapt to heavy use is essential. When parents consider all the things that they will need to use the vehicle to do, such as make it to doctor’s appointments on time and get their kids to school each day, little else matters as much as reliability. In fact, a certified automobile with a warranty may be the best bet, so that the investment is covered by car dealerships or automobile makers for the first few weeks or months of ownership.

Fitting Into the Budget Is Essential

A family’s financial health needs to dictate the price range of used cars that can be considered. Parents don’t have to announce the family’s budget when they arrive to look at the inventory, but they need to keep it foremost in their minds throughout the hunt. If a vehicle puts a family into the red, it won’t be doing anyone much good. Instead, a vehicle that fits into the budget without creating huge wrinkles is worth its weight in oil changes.

Safety Ratings Say So Much

It’s wise for every savvy used vehicle buyer to take a long look at the safety ratings of an automobile before considering a purchase, but parents have to consider the well-being of all members of their family. They should check the results of crash tests for both the front and back seats and make sure they are looking up the exact make and model they’re considering. A safety rating for a model that’s made a few years apart can differ significantly.

Preferences Still Matter

Families don’t need to throw out their daydreams when it comes to a used vehicle. While getting a red automobile or one that has a top notch stereo system may not be the absolute priority when seeking a family vehicle, parents should still try to make a list of their top preferences and meet them as well when perusing automobile dealerships.

Finally, parents need to take all these concerns seriously, but they should ultimately trust their own judgment. When they arrive at a car dealership feeling empowered by having their criteria clearly defined in their minds, they can feel good about the choice they made.

Tips to Take After Your Airbag Deploys

Tips to Take After Your Airbag Deploys

Your vehicle’s airbag is one of its most important safety components. There are a number of sensors wired throughout a car that relates information to the airbag mechanism in regards to the physical condition of the vehicle. In the case of a collision, your airbag will provide an instantaneous cushion to protect you and your passengers from colliding with the solid interior components of the car. This helps to reduce serious head and neck injuries, as well as several other types of orthopedic injuries. They have also saved thousands of lives and continue to do so every minute.

When an airbag deploys, it is a startling and sometimes frightening situation. The airbag deploys so suddenly that it can almost feel like your initial collision. It makes a loud pop and emits a very distinct smell of burnt rubber or fabric. It is common to sustain minor burns from airbags as well. But these are not painful and heal quickly. Once an airbag deploys, a person can feel extremely overwhelmed and not sure what to do next. Continue reading for a simple guide on what to do when your airbag deploys, and be better prepared if it were to ever happen to you.

Turn Off Your Engine

Most often, a vehicle’s engine will turn off upon impact or airbag deployment. But sometimes, it doesn’t. If you are not seriously injured, this is the first step to take.

Assess Your Injuries

If your vehicle’s engine turns off as a response to your airbag, then the first step you want to take is to assess any injuries you or your passengers might have sustained. If you feel like you have broken bones or can’t move, wait for emergency personnel to arrive to help.

Get Medical Care

If you are not seriously injured, but still hurt, your next step is to seek medical treatment. You can allow emergency medical technicians that arrive in ambulances to provide a medical assessment and treatment at the scene of the accident; or, you can go to the emergency room.

Exit the Car and Assist Other Parties

If you are not injured, exit the vehicle when the road is clear to do so. And if there was another vehicle involved in the accident, check to see if they need medical assistance. If no other cars were involved, then simple remain in a safe spot on the side of the road and move onto the next step.

Make Phone Calls

From a safe place, contact the police to file a report (especially if there were others involved). Then contact your insurance provider if necessary. You can also call a tow truck to have your vehicle transported to a location of your choice, or a friend to come and get you.

The Reason Being a Designated Driver Can Be Fun

The Reason Being a Designated Driver Can Be Fun

Volunteering to be a designated driver doesn’t have to be a drag – in fact, there are so many advantages to being the designated driver that we’ve decided to list them all (or most of them!) here. The next time you go out with some friends, consider stepping up to drive your friends home safely!

  1. No hangover: sure, going out for a few drinks can be a lot of fun, but the next morning is always rough! Treat your body better by not drinking, and you will wake up feeling great.
  2. Less of a bar bill. Drinks are expensive! You can spend all of that hard earned cash on other things. Sipping soda all night can save you a lot of money.
  3. You can see how other people act when they have a few drinks. It’s interesting to watch how other people behave after having a few drinks. Sometimes, you can really see someone’s true colors after that person has had a few cocktails. Sit back and see whether or not the friends you are spending time with really are great people.
  4. You will have the satisfaction of knowing that your friends will get home safely. This is one of the biggest advantages to being the designated driver!
  5. You may get free drinks. Some bars and clubs honor designated drivers by offering free drinks to responsible adults (that’s you if you are the DD!).
  6. You won’t do something that you will later regret. How many times have you made a phone call or sent a text after drinking? Or, maybe you’ve said something or done something that you regret the next day. Not drinking means not making these mistakes.

Making It All Fair
If you don’t want to be the designated driver all the time, that’s okay. But, someone in your group of friends should be sober every time you go out (if you plan to drive to a place). To make things fair, you can take turns not drinking. This way, everyone pulls their weight – and everyone makes it home safely.

Lastly, we want to remind you not to get in a car with anyone that’s been drinking. Take a taxi, stay at a friend’s house, find someone that hasn’t been drinking to bring you home – or call mom or dad to pick you up. There are always alternate ways to get home. Make sure that you make the safest decision!

Tips For Lubricating Electric Motor Bearings

Tips For Lubricating Electric Motor Bearings

Machines and vehicles depend on proper lubrication so that friction forces are reduced. If friction forces are not reduced, the machine or vehicle’s life cycle will be decreased. As such, if you want to get the most out of your equipment or vehicles, it is essential that their roller bearings are lubricated regularly and correctly.

Today, motor experts are recommending machine and vehicle owners to do or carry out optimized lubrication. Optimized lubrication means applying new grease on bearings when needed and using just the right amount and type of grease to return friction levels to an acceptable level.

To carry out optimized lubrication properly, here are some useful tips you should follow:

Identify when you need to lubricate the bearings.

It can be tricky to know how often to apply grease. Keep in mind that lubricating bearings, when they don’t need grease, will cause them to malfunction and get damaged, too.

The frequency of lubrication can be influenced by various factors, including heat and humidity, the dimensions of the ball bearings or roller bearings, frequency of use and duration of running time when in use, and type of grease used.

To get the timing right, read the machine or vehicle’s user manual or guidelines and follow the instructions on lubrication of ball bearings. However, you also need to be willing to adapt the rules to a specific situation. Always keep a vigilant eye on the bearings as well.

Choose a brand and type of grease that is compatible to the bearings and the one you used before.

Make sure the type of grease you are using is compatible with the grease which may have been used before on the bearing. If they are incompatible, the two types can react with each other and become obsolete. You can get some sort of chart which indicates compatibility from the supplier, but it is always best to get in touch with the manufacturers of both types of grease to find out if they can be used in conjunction.

Select a type and brand of grease that won’t cause the bearings and the machine to overheat.

A 10°C degree increase in temperature cab cut a bearing’s life expectancy in half. As such, make sure your lubrication won’t crank up the temperature of the machine while it is in use since this is just counterproductive.

Don’t lubricate a bearing in a machine or vehicle that has not been used for more than two years.

Lastly, this is an important tip to remember since the old grease on an unused bearing will have hardened and can prevent even distribution of the new grease and sometimes force the new grease through a seal.

All About The Wheeled Light Armoured Vehicle

All About The Wheeled Light Armoured Vehicle

panhardDuring the past decades, the wheeled light armoured vehicle, otherwise known as LAV, was viewed as a supporting vehicle to heavier armoured vehicles. These days, it plays a very crucial role in modern welfare. Also, it has become a permanent fixture in the fleet of militaries in different parts of the world.

Modern LAVs can now be used for security purposes, working hand-in-hand with infantry for offense and defense. These vehicles can also be used for drawing the LAVs of the enemy, which can alter the shape and outcome of battle. Apart from that, these vehicles can likewise be used as reserves to strike at the critical moments to swing the tide of the battle with its mobility and firepower. There are some cases wherein they can be used for security and reconnaissance with air forces.

Modern LAVs have different capabilities, making them a very great addition to just about any fleet. These will include the ability to provide support during close fights, to provide cover as well as protection against various types of weapons, to operate in different types of battlefields, and to break away from the main unit for deployment during reinforcement and contingencies, and for fast movement and penetration.

Factors That Led To More Prominent Role For LAVs

Advances in suspension – This is one of the many reasons why these vehicles are designated for more important role in modern warfare. This technology has been proven to have translated to different benefits like the enhancement of ride quality, an overall upgrade in vehicle durability, and better handling and stability. Such advancements have permitted designers to manufacture LAVs that can travel at higher speeds whilst reducing shock forces. The integration of sensors as well as computing devices has indeed complemented these advances in suspension. In turn, this has allowed LAVs to carry higher payloads and boost their off-road capabilities.

Developments in electronics and computing – This is another key factor that has pushed these vehicles to play a crucial role in modern warfare. All of these great developments have enhanced and expanded the capabilities of this armoured vehicle, most especially when it comes to vehicle control and monitoring. Today, these autos have the capability to link and operate with other units, giving it a better perspective of the battleground.

The Future Of LAVs

Though modern LAVs became considerably heavier, the integration of new technologies has allowed it to play new, different roles in response to the different types of threats in the battlefield. The LAVs today an already carry larger payloads and guns. Indeed, they can confidently take missions that their older counterparts are not capable of.

Significant Factor in Car Accidents

Significant Factor in Car Accidents

Some Facts About High Speed Limits and Car Accidents

In 2014, the U.S. Department of Transportation reported that a total of 32,675 people died in motor vehicle accidents or soon thereafter as a result of injuries suffered from those accidents. This recent estimate of deaths was tied to over $242 billion dollars of taxpayer expense for annual economic ramifications of these deadly accidents. The high death toll of accidents is attributed to impaired driving, speeding, non-use of seat belts, distracted driving and other bad driving behaviors. Sadly, bad behaviors are the common denominator in these deaths, regardless of precise actions.

About 28 percent of motor vehicle crash deaths in 2014 were proven to be caused by speeding. Speeding has been the attributed factor for 30 percent of crash deaths since 2005. The definition of speeding when it comes to auto accidents includes crashes wherein the driver was ticketed for excess of speed or due to behaviors such as driving too fast for road or weather conditions, racing or blatantly exceeding posted speed limits.

Surprisingly, interstates and freeways where speed limits are higher are not necessarily where the danger lies, or where most accidents from this cause occur. In 2014, speed related auto accident deaths happened more frequently on minor roadways. 35 percent of these deadly high-speed car accidents happened on roads that were not highways. Interstates and freeways were the scene of only about 29 percent of deadly accidents blamed for speeds and other major roads with high posted limits were the site of only 25 percent of car accident deaths.

About half of the speed related fatalities of 2014 occurred on roads with legal limits of less than 55 miles per hour. These slower paced streets resulted in 9,262 related deaths.

But the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) blames more deadly crashes on increased limits. Researchers attributed 1,900 deaths in 2013 on roads with higher speed limits. They claim these fatal accidents counterbalance lives saved by airbags during the same year.

Car Accidents due to High Speed Limits are Common

According to studies, speeding is a factor in about one-third of all car crashes. It is a common occurrence as a car accident lawyer to see these types of related crashes. Unfortunately, people read crash reports and watch on the news the amount of accidents on a regular basis and never get used to the number of people injured due to the negligence of a speeding driver.

Despite the abundance of evidence regarding high-speed limit related car crashes, states and many cities continue to increase roadway speed limits, thinking auto safety innovations mean that drivers can drive at higher speeds without greater risk.

Some states feature speed limits as high as 80 miles per hour, while others enforce slow limits of as low as five miles per hour. These limits are constantly being challenged by the public and changing to meet a seeming desire for speed.

Since 2005, over one dozen U.S. states have increased their statewide speed limits. While it was only a few decades ago that “Drive 55” was a national highway travel safety marketing slogan, most highways today could use a slogan of “Drive 75,” with others able to claim “Drive 85” as a way to remind drivers of regional speed limits. This is a major change in a very short period of time.

Such changes are often due to nothing more than old-fashioned peer pressure, according to the Governor’s Highway Safety Association. When one state increases its speed and citizens applaud the change, neighboring states follow suit. Sadly, this occurs regardless to consequences of speed-related accidents. Our advice, be mindful of your speed limit and remember to be alert of others around you.
