The car is an invaluable tool for many of us. In order to minimize the effects of the elements on the cars, a product called the Car Umbrella was developed. By adding a barrier between your car and the elements, it lessens the toll your steel horse takes over the years.
In essence, the car umbrella is a cover that extends over your vehicle so that you can leave your car or stay inside when the weather is less than optimal. By extending a protective canvas, which consists of a material similar to the one used for boats’ sails, over the whole roof of the car, the umbrella safeguards it from weather conditions, such as the sun, acidic rains, leaves, dust particles or, least savory of all, bird droppings. Be advised, it is intended for use only when not driving.
The invention itself is user-friendly. Uniquely designed, it is intended for ease of use and to be polyvalent. It is made out of high-quality materials, such as copper anti-rust windproof snaps and military grade fiberglass rods. In addition, the snaps will disengage to protect the integrity of the installation in case of strong winds. The Umbrella itself is mounted on suction cups, to be installed in the middle of the car roof. With 70 kg of horizontal suction and wind ropes to protect against gusts, it makes the whole installation quite stable. All the pieces in contact with the car are made of soft materials to ensure that they do not scratch the car’s paint. Add into the mix high-quality polycarbonate fittings and a battery that operates for a full month after one charge, and this isn’t merely a simple contraption.
Installing it, on the other hand, takes a mere 30 seconds. Its canvas, 2.1 meters wide by 4 meters, can then be deployed in less than 10 seconds, using the remote which is effective up to 98 ft. (almost 30 meters) away. When its arms are extending, one is reminded of a bat spreading its wings. For storage, it can easily fit in any trunk and be carried and deployed as needed as it is only 85 cm long. You also have the option of 3 different color schemes for the canvas cover, allowing you to customize the Umbrella to fit whatever mood you’re in.
The way we see it, it provides two advantages to your car. On the one hand, it protects the outside and lessens the upkeep. Secondly, it generates an airflow and separation between the car and its surroundings. This translates into significantly lower car surface temperatures in sunny conditions, in some cases as much as 35oC, and consequently cooler temperatures inside. That way you can save on fuel if you decide to wait in the car, since the air-conditioning will not be as important, and your car will suffer much less wear and tear while it’s left parked in nature or underground parking lots.
The concept offers the protection of the same material that survives sea storms, and that says something. It will be interesting to see if the idea is pushed further, and its future iterations.
